Riverside is being recognized worldwide for its forward looking, cutting-edge approaches to economic development, education, sustainability and technology. Discover the possibilities within this City of Arts & Innovation.

UC officials announced May 3rd that UC Riverside had been selected as the location for a shared service center that will process payroll, benefits, and other transactions for all ten campuses and five medical centers.

The UCPath Center will open its doors in July 2013, initially serving five locations with approximately 140 - 160 employees, and will hire more people as campuses and medical centers transition into using its services.  When fully deployed, it's estimated to employ as many as 500 - 600 people. The City of Riverside is showing substantial signs of economic recovery, welcoming many new businesses over the past year.  More than 25 grand opening celebrations along with many more new companies that

Citrus Tower

have quietly joined the City mark strong business growth across several job markets.

In addition to the potential 600 professional jobs coming to the region as a result of the UCPath Center locating in Riverside (see story above), AMA Plastics and Crystal Pacific Window & Door Systems, two major manufacturers, added approximately 300 new jobs to the community and have taken advantage of the City of Riverside's energy incentive programs.  Rounding out the list, companies such as Castle & Cooke, Dr. Pepper/Snapple and Meridian Food Services Inc., a woman-owned food services company, brought another 600-plus jobs to the distribution sector this last year. (read more)

New City Manager makes economic development his top priority

When Scott Barber was hired as Riverside's City Manager last December, he committed to the City Council that he would act swiftly to develop a new, forward-thinking, collaborative strategy to position Riverside as a leader in this era that has been commonly referred to as our "new economy."

Using Riverside's community vision, Seizing Our Destiny, as his guide, Barber and his team of key personnel that represented various City departments established a set of specific actions and goals that will help Riverside fuel intelligent growth, be a catalyst for innovation, continue to be a location of choice, and become an increasingly unified city that leverages its people, partnerships and spirit.

As Barber explains "Simply put, the goal of City's Economic Development Action Plan is to help businesses create jobs for our community and every City employee will have a role to play." (read more)
